Things to be aware of when changing your network password
What happens when I change my Brunel network password?
When you change your Brunel network account password, you need to be aware that your account could be locked out by your old password still being active on other devices, such as
- your mobile phone
- your tablet
- any mapped network drives on a laptop
This also includes any devices that you may have at home, or devices that you no longer use but may still remain connected to the Internet and configured for a Brunel service.
How to cleanly update your password
The cleanest way in which to update your password on each device is to:- - Remove any devices you no longer use from your Connect account (see Totally Removing Device from Connect and NetMan article)
- Forget or remove the Wifi@Brunel network profile
- Reconnect to Wifi@Brunel and enter your username (<<Login for this information>>) and new password
- Disconnect any shared drives you have mapped on your laptop (i.e. H: Drive & G: Drive)
- Remap your shared drives using your username (<<Login for this information>>\<<Login for this information>>) and new password
For more detailed instructions specific to your device(s) please follow our How To Wizard.
Other Considerations - If you also have an eduroam network profile you will need to remove and reconnect that as well.
- If you have set-up your web browser to store passwords, you will need to update your new password on each Brunel website that you visit. This is normally done by over-typing the password.
- If you have any Office 365 services (Email, OneDrive, Skype for Business etc) configured on your devices you will need to update your password in the email account settings on the device.
