Wifi@Brunel Service Announcement

You may remember we had some issues with Wifi@Brunel earlier in the year. To stabilise the service we took the decision to switch off mandatory device registration while we worked with our technology partner to resolve these issues. This work is now complete and we intend switch on mandatory device registration on Monday 19th May at 10:00am after the examination period.

It is important that if you have bought or started using a new device on Wifi@Brunel since the 1st of February 2014 we recommend you check that this has been registered.

What do I need to do next?
If you have already registered all your devices on the Connect Portal, you should not have to do anything further. We would however suggest you double check by logging in to the Connect Portal to ensure all your devices are listed.

What changes will I see?
You will still be connecting to Wifi@Brunel as usual but you may be prompted to accept a new digital certificate. You will need to “accept” (or on Microsoft Windows devices “connect”) when prompted. You may be prompted for this up to 4 times as different parts of the campus are covered using different certificates. This is normal and once each of the 4 certificates has been accepted, they are stored permanently on your device and you should not be prompted again.

Here's what the certificate prompts look like:

What will happen on Monday 19th May if I’ve not registered my devices?
Any devices not registered by the 19th May will lose Wi-Fi access after 10:00am. You are likely to be shown one of the following messages:
“failed to connect”
“invalid password”
“you are not authorised”
Should this occur it can be fixed by simply registering the device on the Connect Portal. Once registration is complete it can take 20-30 minutes to activate.

We expect most of you will not have any issues as your devices will have already been registered and will simply need to accept the new certificates. Anyone likely to be affected will receive a personalised email from the "Connect Portal" in the coming weeks.

The Connect Team will be happy to assist if you have any problems you are unable to resolve. The Connect Advisory Service in Bannerman 005 will be open early on Monday 19th May at 10:00am and stay open until 5:00pm to provide personal assistance.
