This article introduces you to some of the online services provided to you at Brunel.
Many of you will have heard the term "Bring Your Own Device", commonly referred to as BYOD. This isn’t new to Brunel; in fact we have been supporting this for over a decade. The family of Brunel’s BYOD services is what we call the “Connect” services because they allow you to connect your personal devices to; The Internet, Your Brunel email, Your Brunel Network Drive and The Brunel Self Service Printing facilities.
In order to use any of the Connect Services you will need to use your Brunel Network Account Username and Password to log in to the Connect Portal, so that you can "Connect To" our various networks and services.
The
Connect Portal is the central hub where you can register your device and connect to our networks and services. This is also where you can access help and support, either through our knowledge base and guides, or by contacting the IT Support Team.
Wifi@Brunel
This is our wireless (WiFi) service for Brunel students and staff. All of the academic buildings and halls of residence have WiFi coverage. WiFi enabled devices can connect to the Internet and Brunel resources.
Log in to Wifi@Brunel using your network username and password. Unregistered devices will have limited access to visit the
Connect Portal and register the device before receiving internet access.
Wifi@Brunel uses state of the art infrastructure enabling the connection of wireless devices that are compatible with 802.11g/n WPA2 Enterprise, on both the 2.4 GHz range and the 5GHz range at a connection speed of up to 300 mbps.
ResNet
This is the hard-wired network in Halls of residence that provides every study bedroom with a computer network outlet that students can plug their computer or
Games Console into to get access to the Internet and Brunel resources.
AnyConnect VPN
AnyConnect VPN is used to access the Brunel network from off-campus for access to certain internal Brunel network resources such as H: drive. AnyConnect VPN does not work on campus and is not needed in halls of residence.
eduroam
This is a world wide network for educational and research institutions that allows Visitors from one participating institution to access the internet using their home institution’s username and password whilst visiting another institution.
Visitor@Brunel
This is our wireless network that provides Conference delegates, residential guests, and certain other sponsored visitors access to the internet whilst they are on campus.
The Visitor@Brunel service is designed to be a web browsing service to allow for the convenience of being able to browse the web on mobile and other wireless enabled devices, as such there are some restrictions and limitations as to the type of internet activity is supported.
