Brunel Owned Devices
What is a Brunel Owned (Community) Device?
| | | Any device which is purchased by Brunel is classified as a Brunel owned (or Community) device.
A standard Brunel owned device such a laptop will be installed with Windows 10 and will include a number of core applications.
They are managed by community managers who are usually (but not always) part of the college/department IT and / or central admin team. |
| | | Why are they Different?
| | | It is important for us to know if the device is owned by Brunel or is a personal device for a number of reasons such as: | So we have a record of the assets Brunel owns | | | | So we can apply the correct policies and management to the device | | | | So we know what the device is able to access (e.g. sensitive data) | | | | So we know if corporate software can be installed on the device | | | | So your department has visibility of the device and can re-assign it to somebody else if required |
|
| | | How are they Different?
| | | | They are registered against a college or department (also known as a Community) | | | | They can be assigned or loaned to people or teams (must be able to use Wifi@Brunel) | | | | They may need to apply to more stringent checks or policies | | | | They can run corporate software (for example our enterprise antivirus product)
|
To spot a community device under your My Devices look for the text "[Loaned or Assigned]" next to the status. If this is not present the device is registered as a personal device.
